Walking with Dinosaurs - Kibble Fostering

Walking with Dinosaurs

On one of our many summer trips, young people and adults in our fostering team visited Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park in Stirling! Blessed with a sunny day, we set off to visit the wild animals and catch a glimpse of the dinosaurs.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an adventure without our team mascot, Wigley. He was a little scared about meeting the fearsome T-Rex. That’s okay though as one of the children was there to protect Wigley and help him feel safe.

In the safety of the car, John from our team joined the convoy of other vehicles in search of lions, elephants, tigers, rhinos and zebras. As we made our way round with baited breath in anticipation of seeing these majestic mammals. It didn’t take long before they came into view and we couldn’t believe our eyes. We were so close to these giants that we only ever see on David Attenborough programmes.

Whilst one young person was a little nervous of the lions and rhinos, the little monkeys seemed to steal the show and made him smile. He was mesmerised when they came up to the cars. We even managed to see a mum, dad and baby monkey which made our day.

After the safari adventure, we bravely made our way to the Dinosaur Forest in search of the twenty prehistoric giants. Thanks to pyrotechnics, they can move, breathe and ROAR! Certainly not for the feint-hearted, but not a match for our young people. We managed to see T-Rex, a diplodocus, stegosaurus, velociraptor and flying Pterodactyl.

John got cooking the BBQ and we finished the feast off with ice cream and doughnuts. A day at Blair Drummond Safari isn’t complete without a go on the dodgems, caterpillar ride and the rapid slides. The young people also enjoyed the pedalo boats where they saw flamingos and a visit to chimp island.

The mood of the day was happy, but just to be sure, one of the young people bought a special mood ring from the gift shop that changed colour depending on how he was feeling. We are pleased to confirm there were happy faces all round as passed it to others to see how they were feeling. What a wonderful day and the memory bank is full for young people and staff who enjoyed spending time together and meeting the amazing animals.
