A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Fostering Services as a volunteer. This new, voluntary role is particularly suited to candidates who may be considering a career as a foster carer and want to gain a deeper understanding of the role whilst spending time with our wonderful children and young people, foster carers and staff team.
As a volunteer, you will be based at our Paisley or Hamilton Hub and choose hours that work around your life. This could be a commitment of one day per week, or even an hour every other week.
The role will enable you to gain practical experience, acquire relevant skills and training, and explore what is means to foster with Kibble. As a volunteer, you will work alongside and be supported by our friendly staff team, plus get involved in activities with children and young people. This could be anything from reading stories together, playing games or going to the cinema or play park. The role will be flexible and vary depending on the needs of the young people and service.
Do I have what it takes?
To volunteer at Kibble, there are no formal qualifications or experience needed. We are looking for friendly individuals who can relate well to children and young people, and who have a genuine interest in their wellbeing.
In return for giving the gift of your time, there are opportunities to access training, develop new skills and gain satisfaction through contributing to a young person’s development.
Due to this voluntary role being a possible preliminary route into a career as a foster carer, we would welcome candidates who have a spare bedroom, or are likely to have a spare bedroom in the near future.
What’s Involved in the Recruitment Process?
Candidates will be selected on their suitability to the volunteering role, ensuring young people receive the best support possible. The recruitment process is designed to confirm volunteers have a genuine drive to help others and fully understand the time commitment involved.
The journey to become a volunteer at Kibble includes:
- The completion of an Application Pack containing an Application Form Equal Opportunities Form and Self-Declaration Form
- An informal panel interview
- The submission of two referees
- Application to become a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme (PVG Scheme)
- Completion of all mandatory training including online and classroom-based courses
- Passing a three-month trial period
- Signing a Volunteer Agreement that clarifies the expectations of volunteers and Kibble
