Summer Camping Adventure
25 July 2025
This summer, our young people, supported by Kibble’s dedicated Child and Youth Workers, set off on an unforgettable camping adventure to Glencoe, Fort William, and Mallaig. Read on to discover their story.
We set off from the Hamilton Hub with the car boot packed up at 11am on Monday 30th June . We enjoyed the scenic drive through Glencoe Mountain range and arrived at the Red Squirrel campsite for our two-night stay. Unfortunately, the rain was lashing down as we set up camp , we braved the weather and managed to get four tents assembled all pulling together. We took cover for the night and enjoyed cooking burgers under a canopy as we watched the rainfall get heavier.
Thankfully, the next day was dry and allowed us to cook breakfast around a gas camping stove surrounded by sheep , ducks, and frogs. We set off for the Glenfinnan Viaduct as we had heard the Jacobite Steam Train would be passing at around mid-day. We caught a glimpse of the train on route and managed to get to the viaduct to see it passing over the longest concrete bridge in Scotland. Lots of Harry potter fans were gathered in anticipation for the train crossing over the bridge and cheered as it passed.
We decided to head on towards Mallaig and spent the afternoon pottering around the silver Sands of Morar beach on the coastline of Arisaig to Morar. The water was crystal clear, and it almost looked tropical. The young people in attendance found it hard to believe there were beaches this nice just hours away from home . On route back to camp we stopped off for a chippy dinner in Fort William then headed back to camp for another night toasting marshmallows around the fire.
The camping trip was a special experience for everyone involved. The young people came back with happy memories, a sense of achievement, and are already looking forward to the next adventure.
